To ensure the safety of our customers and at the same time offer maximum availability of stock, the pre-booking of snow chains is no longer possible. Chains will only be provided after we have established that they can safely be used on vehicles. This may include the physical fitting to the vehicle as well as checking the owners handbook about possible tyre and chain combinations recommended by the vehicle manufacturers.

OUR LOCATION
On entering the Mansfield township (heading in the Mt Buller direction) the SCM shops are situated on your left hand side.
PARKING
There is ample parking outside the shops, but if it happens to be full, centre road parking directly opposite the shops is always available.
Chain Requirement
During the winter season, diamond pattern chains must be carried in cars on all alpine roads in Victoria. To ensure safety and compatibility, we do not take online reservations for snow chains. Here's why:

Vehicle Compatibility: Some cars, especially newer models, lack the necessary space for snow chains.
Safety Assurance: We need to check your car’s manual and physically fit the chains to ensure they are safe and suitable.
We understand this may be inconvenient, but safety is our top priority. If your car cannot safely use chains, we recommend avoiding mountain driving during winter. Please ensure your vehicle can use snow chains, as these are now legally required on Victorian alpine roads to prevent any inconvenience. You can find this information in most vehicle handbooks or by contacting the manufacturer.
Chain Availability
We carry a wide range of chains to cover most tire sizes, available for hire on a first-come, first-served basis.
We also have a limited number of new and second-hand chains for sale.
Hire Rates
$25.00 per day if you hire ski or snowboard equipment with us.
$35.00 per day if you don’t hire ski or snowboard equipment.

These discounts apply specifically to midweek visits, meaning they are valid on days between Monday and Friday.

Booking Instructions:
To make a booking for hiring gear online, please follow these steps:
Visit our booking website at https://discount-ski-hire.booqable.store.
Select the desired pick-up day and time.
You have the option to pick up your gear the day before the first day of your rental period at no additional cost. The pick-up window is between 2 pm and 5 pm. When making your booking, if you select a timeslot after 2 pm, our system will not charge you for that day.
Choose the return day and time.
You then have the flexibility to either click on the available equipment categories or simply scroll down to locate the specific gear you require. Each item includes a picture, a brief description, and the price. Click on the picture to add it to your cart.
To continue shopping, click on the "X" in the top right corner.
If you want to review your cart or make changes, select "Review Cart" or proceed to “Checkout”
At the checkout screen, enter your details such as name and driver's license number etc.
These details will be cross-referenced during pick-up and should belong to the person collecting the gear.
By clicking on the "I accept the terms and agreements" checkbox, the terms and conditions page will appear. Please read it carefully.
After closing the terms and agreements screen, tick the box to accept and continue to the payment section.
On the payment screen, you can choose between different payment methods such as PayPal or select a card. Make your selection and proceed with the payment.
Once the payment is accepted, your booking is confirmed. You will receive a booking confirmation/invoice via email, using the email address provided during the previous steps.
Changes and Cancellations
Changes and cancellations after this process are only accepted when you respond to the booking confirmation. This is to verify your identity. We cannot take cancellations or changes to the bookings over the phone or by general email.
You have the flexibility to cancel your reservation up to 48 hours before the scheduled collection time. In such cases, we will process a refund for you, deducting a 5% booking fee. Simply reply to this email during our business hours with your cancellation instructions.
For cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to the scheduled collection time, we will provide a refund after deducting the charge for the first day.
Please note that this policy applies only to bookings longer than one day.
Should you need to make changes to the reservation date, you can do so free of charge up to 48 hours before the scheduled collection time, subject to availability. Please note that we cannot guarantee availability for alternative dates.
How to Book an Early Pickup Online:
If you want to ski or snowboard as early as possible in the morning:
Book your pickup online for any time between 2 PM and 5 PM on the day prior.
The booking system will automatically ensure you are not charged for an extra day.
This will automatically calculate a 1 day charge.
If you pick up after 2 pm, there will be no charge for that day, but please note that the minimum hire duration is one day regardless of whether you return the equipment on the same day or the next

When renting Ski or Snowboard equipment we strongly recommend you:
Purchase a Lift Pass to access and enjoy the ski area.
Take lessons to ride safely and in control.
The ski area is for the enjoyment of skiers and snowboarders. Walking on the ski area is dangerous and to be avoided.
Read and follow the Alpine Responsibility Code for your safety and the safety of others.
Respect one another and the alpine environment and have a wonderful time.

No, pre-booking is not required, but we highly recommend it on busy weekends as it can save you time. Pre-booked customers will be served first. However, don't worry—we have plenty of clothing, skis, and snowboards available.

We have 100% on mountain support at our elected outlet. Should you have any issues, just call us so we can advise you on the fastest solution. How do we carry gear? Soft roof racks are available free with hire. Boots and clothing are packed into large carry bags. Day trippers are allowed ski equipment and a day pack on the free shuttle bus service from the car park to village. If staying overnight, the taxi service will carry you and your bags directly to your accommodation.

We still provide toboggans for use outside the Mt. Buller resort, such as at Mt. Stirling. This option is great for saving money and avoiding weekend crowds. Please note that tobogganing at Mt. Buller is now only possible with equipment provided at the “Toboggan Runs.”

We take great care in maintaining our equipment to ensure it remains in good working condition. In the event that any damage occurs due to negligence or misuse, we kindly request that the replacement value of the equipment be paid for. This will help us to continue providing quality service to all our customers at our low prices. Our hire rates cover normal wear and tear on Items. Major damage from negligence, loss or breakage of equipment is to be paid for by the hirer.

Please check your car owners manual regarding the suitability of fitting chains to your vehicle tyres before leaving home. Discount Ski Hire maintains the right to deny supply of any vehicle chains it deems unsafe or unsuitable.

To ensure your safety and maintain our stock, we no longer allow pre-booking of snow chains. We only rent snow chains after confirming they can be safely used on your vehicle. This involves fitting the chains to your car and checking the owner's manual for the recommended combinations.
Please note that some car models sold in Australia are not compatible with snow chains and should not be driven on alpine roads during winter for safety reasons.

While our primary assistance for fitting chains is typically provided at our store location, generally road conditions may require chains to be fitted closer to the resort area. In such cases, we can provide you with guidance and instructions on how to properly fit the chains to your vehicles. A chain fitting service is often (but not all the time) provided by a commercial operator for a fee (cash only).
